PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide
Free
PAPYRUS is the UK's leading national charity dedicated to preventing young suicide, which remains the leading cause of death for individuals under 35 in the country. Founded by bereaved parents who had lost children to suicide, the organization bridges the gap between acute crisis distress and the safety tools needed to preserve life. The charity’s frontline service is HOPELINE247, a free, completely confidential suicide prevention helpline available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Staffed by trained, professional suicide intervention advisers, HOPELINE247 works directly with young people struggling with thoughts of self-harm or suicide to form actionable, short-term safety plans. The service is equally a lifeline for parents, friends, teachers, and healthcare professionals who are deeply worried that a young person they know may be at risk. Beyond crisis lines, PAPYRUS delivers extensive community training programs to equip schools, universities, and local groups with the skills to confidently spot early signs of emotional distress.
