Wavelength Fighting Loneliness
Free
WaveLength is a unique national charity dedicated to fighting loneliness and social isolation by gifting technology to vulnerable people who cannot afford it themselves. Originally founded in 1939 as the "Wireless for the Bedridden Society," the charity has evolved to provide modern technology, including televisions, radios, tablet computers, and SIM cards. For someone who is housebound or recovering from a crisis, these devices provide a critical window to the outside world, helping them connect with family, stream entertainment, learn new skills, and feel less alone. To ensure the technology goes to those in genuine financial and emotional need, WaveLength does not accept direct applications from individuals. Instead, individuals must be referred by a professional third-party "sponsor"—such as a social worker, housing officer, medical professional, or local charity worker. WaveLength also works on a larger scale by donating technology directly to communal facilities, such as homeless hostels, domestic abuse refuges, and older adult day centers.
