West Mids Ambulance Service (WMAS) Non-emergency Patient Transport
Free
The WMAS Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) is an officially commissioned NHS service that handles nearly one million patient journeys every year across the region. Instead of acting as a 999 emergency response unit with blue lights, or a generic, low-cost community taxi, it functions as a specialist medical logistics provider. The service is strictly limited to patients whose medical condition or severe mobility issues mean travelling by any other means (public transport, family cars, or standard taxis) would be physically impossible or detrimental to their health. Their highly trained crews operate a complex 350-strong fleet of custom vehicles equipped for wheelchairs, stretchers, bariatric needs, and high-dependency transfers.
